Happy Anniversary!

I know it's late in the day, but I wanted to post a Happy Anniversary to the amazing Suppenküche, in San Francisco. Celebrating their 16th year tonight, their parties are always magical.
I know I've mentioned before, but they truly have the. best. split. pea. soup. Period.

Postage Rate Increase

Okay, while I may be a day late and a dollar short on this Cinco De Mayo thing, I won't be fooled by the Postage rate increase happening on Monday. Rates will increase from 42¢ to 44¢, so be sure use up all of those soon-to-be old stamps this weekends. Why not send out a little note to a loved one?

Lost and Found | Postcard Series

My husband found this copy in a used book store. Along with the great story, he found this lovely and touching inscription inside the front cover. I would love to receive such a note. This will be the first in a series of Lost and Found Postcards. If you have found any yourselves that you'd like to contribute to the series, please contact me! Read the inscription here:

L,
There is nothing significant about giving you this now except that it is one of my all time favorite, that it is about a pure soul encountering new people, that it is long and you might have time before too many new friends sweep you away to read it. And just because I love you so dearly and had to give you something the nearest to the weight of a heart. I love you, D.

Slo-Baked!

This is a snippet of a counter-top which extends about 12 feet long that currently sits in my shop. My studio is housed in a building rich in history. Part of it had been a grocery store from the 1950's, and at some point during the 1980's, the owners of the building just left. Everything sat as it had from 1950 on, until people started breaking in. Apparently, the owners did not believe in storing their money in a bank, so chose to store it in the walls, etc.. This didn't last long and the building was soon discovered as a free atm. The man who bought the building after all of this happened (gutting, fire, etc.) lovingly restored the building and put it back into shape.

When I moved in, he said, "Victoria, you like old stuff, right?". And he gave me this counter, along with some other really cool pieces.

The Flashdance

I've been wanting to post about The Flashdance for awhile now. I met Michael through the talented Michelle at Mint Julep  a month or so ago. The minute I clicked on their website I knew they were on to something. Myself, I'm a total music lover, so all disclaimers aside, I have to say that this guy has impeccable taste in music. Truly. And I'm picky. Aside from playing music at cool weddings everywhere, he also puts together a monthly list of music which he will send to you. For real. Shown here is a cd cover that he designed and I printed for him which will house said-cds and will also contain some swag from his partners, Our Labor of Love as well as Max Wanger. These guys have definitely been making the blog rounds but I can also add that not only are they talented, they are kind. If I weren't already married I know who I would hire.

Giving Props

My friend, Nat told me about the work of Jim Flora a few years ago, and I'm constantly reminded of his inspiration and his work as I pop around the blogs today. This piece at the top, titled, "Manhattan" was originally created in the 1950's. It was a woodblock that had been hand-carved and then painstakingly hand-colored.

He worked as an illustrator for RCA and if you see some of the comments on his website, you'll find that he wasn't always well-received. I'd still love to find one of his albums.
